Osteichthyes
Osteichthyes are a group of bony fish with a skeleton made of bone and cartilage. Crocodile Snake Eel (found in waters around the coast of American Samoa) have pointed snouts and tails allow them to burrow beneath the sand. Their roles in the ecosystem is to control the numbers of the species they prey on and to provide a food source to their predators.
Reptilla
Reptiles are cold-blooded vertebrates. Green Sea Turtle (found in the near oceans of American Samoa), can grow up to three feet in length and range anywhere from 300-350 pounds. Their role in the ecosystem is to help maintain the health of the world’s oceans by maintaining the activity of coral reefs.
Amphibia
Amphibians are tetrapod vertebrates. Marine toad (found in the marine environments), are extremely large, brown toad with dry, bumpy skin; huge parotid glands (warty masses) located from behind the eyes down the side of the body.Their role in the ecosystem is to control the insect population, and they're a food source for many larger animals.
Aves
Aves are a taxonomic group of birds. Fairy Terns (found on coastal beaches), weigh just seventy grams at maturity; the fairy tern is mostly white except for its crown which is black from bill to nape. Their role in the ecosystem is to carry out the process of pollination or seed dispersal.
Carnivores
Carnivores are heterotrophs that only consume other animals, not plants. Rough Toothed Dolphins (found in marine environments), have a small head with a long beak with no crease at the melon. Thier role in tje ecosystem is to control populations of fishes and squids and keep the ecosystem balance.
Herbivores
Herbivores are heterotrophs that only consume plants instead of animals. White-naped fruit bats (found in the forests of American Samoa), are one of the three large fruit bat species that inhabits the islands of American Samoa. Their role in the ecosystem is to promote more vegetation growth within the ecosystem.
Omnivores
Omnivores are heterotrophs that consume both plants and animals. Flying Foxes (found only in the Samoan Archipelago), consumes both fruit and small insects and they have a black head and body. Their role in the ecosystem is to prey on and provide a food source for their predators.
Rodents
Rodents are small mammals they include beavers, chipmunks, mice, porcupines, rats, and squirrels. Polynesian rats (located in the forests of American Samoa), is similar in appearance to the black or ship rat just smaller. Thier role in the ecosystem is to help control species (insects, and small animals).
